Liturgy Committee

The Parish Liturgy Committee meets quarterly from September thru June. Groups of two or three people prepare the intercessions for weekend liturgies. Others prepare and organize special liturgies (e.g. Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day). Suggestions and decisions evolve from this committee regarding liturgical practices and customs (e.g. holding hands during the "Our Father").

Art and Environment Committee members are in charge of decorating the church seasonally. Their duties include planning and creating art work, and sewing and hanging banners for the walls and altar.

Cantors

The role of Cantor at Sunday Mass is to animate the sung worship of the assembly. In additions, the Cantor is responsible for singing the responsorial psalm, and for reading the intercessions and announcements.

Lectors

The dedicated group of men and women who serve as lectors bring to the parish the Lord's message in the weekly Readings which they study and prepare for Mass

Ministers of Communion

The increase in the number of people receiving Communion and the decrease in the number of priests brought about a new service in the Church called Ministers of Communion. It is open to both men and women. Ministers of Communion are assigned once or twice a month usually at a Mass of their preference.

Funeral Choir

The Funeral Choir is open to retirees, homemakers, men and women of all ages who have morning hours free.
Occasional rehearsals are held after a funeral Mass to review familiar songs and to learn new music.

Appropriate folk songs and traditional resurrection songs compromise the musical repertoire.

Families of deceased parishioners are most appreciative of the group’s endeavors.

Guitar Group

The Our Lady of Knock Guitar Group was organized in 1968. Through the years the group has been in existence, both the players and the style of music have changed. The size of the group has varied from as few as three to the present compliment of twelve. The music, while basically folk in nature, has been updated to reflect the changing attitudes of the Church and its liturgy.
The Guitar Group continues to be comprised of a cross section of ages and backgrounds. Ages and members have varied from mid-teens to middle age, while individual backgrounds have included engineers, teachers, clerical, business men and women, housewives and students.

The Group provides service music and musical background for the celebrant at the 10 A.M. Mass on Sunday. The group also provides music for special occasions such as First Communion, Confirmation, weddings and even, on occasion, a funeral.

New members are always welcome. Some enthusiasm, a little talent and a telephone call to the Rectory are all it takes!

Altar Servers

Our parish has about  8 young boys and girls who serve the Church by assisting and serving Mass. They are called upon for many liturgical event: weddings, funerals, Sunday Mass and occasionally Benediction.

We begin training new servers in the Fall, beginning with fifth graders. Any girl or boy in the parish is eligible even if they don't attend Christ Our Savior Catholic School or Footsteps in Faith. If interested, please inquire thru Mrs. Knetl at (708)868-1711.

We have recently added adult servers, especially at the weekday celebrations.  Men and women who are interested and available during the daytime should contact Mrs. Cathy Knetl at (708)868-1711.

Ushers

The Ushers group consists of dedicated parishioners whose duties consist of not only taking up the collection, but also of taking care of the seating and comfort of parishioners at all Masses and special events in Church. They also maintain an orderly Communion Procession.

Greeters

The Greeters Ministry came into being at Our Lady of Knock as a result of the Liturgy Renewal sessions held in the Fall of 1991. The task of the greeters is to welcome parishioners and visitors to Sunday liturgies and to make them feel at home. Greeters can be singles, couples, or families. The one trait they have in common is their warm, friendly manner. Usually greeters are scheduled for just one weekend Mass per month.
