We can all be proud to be members of Our Lady of Knock Parish. It is the only parish worldwide to be named for the Knock Shrine in knock, Ireland.

Knock, Ireland is a small, remote village in County Mayo. It is sparsely populated and located along the coastline. Its main line of economic survival is agricultural, mainly potatoes. A good harvest of potatoes meant a good economy for the people of the village, but unfortunately, there were many bad harvests. The harvest of 1879 was a disaster. The weather had been too wet for even a mediocre crop. On the evening of August 21, 1879 an unusual brightness appeared over the village church. It was remarkable because the weather had been so dismal. As people gathered to see the strange sight, they saw three figures moving and talking. As the people approached, they recognized the figure in the white cloak and gold crown as Our Blessed Mother. On her right was St. Joseph and on Our Lady's left was St. John the Evangelist with an open book in his left hand and his right hand raised. Behind the trio was a plain altar surmounted by a lamb and a cross. Though no words were spoken, this apparition fostered in the people a great faith in the Mass and a special devotion to Mary. Ten days after the apparition a small deaf girl attending Mass with her parents played with a piece of plaster from the gable wall. As she played with it she touched it to her ear and immediately her deafness disappeared and her health improved. Reports of this healing spread throughout the world and brought many pilgrims to Knock. Many credited accounts of miraculous cures were reported.

A Commission of Inquiry authorized evidence presented by witness as trustworthy and truthful. This brought many more pilgrims to Knock. They carried away bit of the church gable where the apparition appeared. These have been found to have remarkable healing power. Now thousands of pilgrims come to Knock for healing.
